“Even though I’m not a farmer, I deeply value teaching the next generation how to live off the land,” shared Honey P., a Supply Assistant and Hospice Aide at Islands Hospice on Maui. “For me, it’s about believing in a future where our children know how to take care of themselves and each other. That knowledge brings me peace.”
Honey’s belief in sustainability, resilience and community inspired her to select Kaialahui Foundation as the recipient of this quarter’s $5,000 Makana Pono donation. Her connection to the foundation is deeply personal. While her keiki volunteer directly, Honey proudly supports the mission through unwavering belief and encouragement.
Kaialahui Foundation works to build a more resilient and self-sufficient community by educating and guiding individuals who want to live sustainably, grow their own food and learn essential survival skills. Their programs serve people committed to reconnecting with the land and developing long-term independence.
Honey has seen firsthand how the organization provides real hope and stability, not just by teaching practical skills but by empowering people. Knowing her children could care for themselves and their community if they ever had to means everything to her.

At Islands Hospice, Honey plays a vital role supporting patients, families and staff. She coordinates supplies, lightens the workload for her care teams and provides respite support for families who need a break. For nearly four and a half years, her work has helped ease stress during some of life’s most sensitive moments, ensuring that patients’ final days are treated with dignity, comfort and compassion.
Her selection of Kaialahui Foundation reflects the same values she brings to her work every day: Service, care and commitment to the well-being of others now and into the future.
Mahalo, Honey, for choosing an organization that strengthens our community, honors the land and helps ensure future generations are prepared to thrive.
