Lanakila Multipurpose Senior Center (LMPSC) is a much-needed hub for seniors. It is a place for exercise, socialization and education. Located in Kalihi, it is the largest senior center in the state, serving nearly 1,500 seniors. With COVID-19 presenting new challenges, especially for our kupuna, Islands Hospice Social Worker, Iris Hashimoto, selected the senior center to direct her $5,000 Makana Pono donation.

It’s because of these agencies and their critically needed services, Islands Hospice Social Worker, Jesseca Guerreiro, is directing her Makana Pono donation to Ala Kuola, an organization that once helped her and her son escape an unsafe relationship.

Nursing school can be expensive, but Islands Hospice nurse practitioner Harold Palma hopes to help ease the burden for students of Filipino ancestry. In doing so, he wants to inspire the next generation of students to pursue a path in nursing.

Mac Quene Geyrozaga, RN, has been working at Islands Hospice for one year. He has chosen to support the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Hawaii chapter, which helps people with mental illness and the families that are affected.
